I bought a dirty truck

Apartment rental prices in New Zealand are crazy! I’ve been living in an AirBnb apartment in Wellington for the last month which has cost just under NZD $4,500! Well it is an awesome location and apartment but still, that seems high.

I planned to leave after a month but since the Corona virus seems worse in Australia than here (there doesn’t seem to be any toilet paper shortage here yet) I decided it would be better to stay put in Kiwiland and wait out the apocalypse. Trouble was I didn’t want to spend so much money on accommodation..

So I went on trademe.co.nz and bought this amazing piece of machinery for $5,000:

1988 Dyna Box-body truck. BU66 – 14B motor
Can be driven on a Class 1 licence according to the Road Code.
Current COF (expires 11/05/20)
Current rego (expires 13/09/20)
RUC has 1600 left. Tare 2390 GVM 4900
Has travelled 254,000 k’s with the following:
New pistons, rings and bearings (yet to run-in) Recon. injectors.
Recent batteries with a master-switch. Recent brake overhaul with new hub seals. New Starter. 24V to 12V reducer. CD player. Reverse camera. No towbar fitted. Excellent box-body. Dimensions L = 3080 X B = 1680 X H = 1720. Very tidy interior. Drives very well.
Some rust in door panels and both rear inner tyres due soon, rest very good. No heater.
Not used enough to warrant keeping. Sell or swap for tipper truck or WHY.

The cheapest alternative accommodation I was considering was around $2,500 / month, so I figured that if I was going to stay here for at least 2 months it would be a similar price to buy the truck and live in it.

Being a classy gentleman who doesn’t need much to be happy I figured I’d just chuck a mattress in the back and that’d be that.

Oh but then I’d also need solar panels to charge my laptop..

.. and a desk to put my laptop on so I could work comfortably..

and maybe a toilet..

Why stop there? Why not make it the best home office exploration truck camper possible? And why not write a blog about it because it will be for sure funny to look back on in years to come and laugh about how much money was wasted and reminisce about all the stupid decisions and adventures had?

Sounds like a plan 😀

Cost: $5,000
