The girlfriend got stuck in NZ as her flight home to Hungary got cancelled, so the truck that was supposed to be my man cave now has to be girlfriend friendly 🙁 🙂 yay!

Artist impression, not to scale
  1. We need a big bed (I like my space when sleeping)
  2. We both need a comfortable space to work on our laptops for hours on end (we’re both programmers).
  3. We need a sink + water tanks to comply with New Zealand’s ‘self contained’ rules
  4. We need storage place for all our clothes + other shit
  5. We need place for a bigass battery + electrics
  6. We need a heater as winter is coming

My engineering genius realised that in order to maximise space our queen size bed would have to fold up when not in use. But I don’t want it to go all the way to the roof as it would block one of the vents / skylights.
The design below folds in two places and has the advantage of being a standing desk when folded up.

Side cross-section. The curved thing is the mattress with pillows and blankets in the middle

Basically when the bed is down the end will rest on the 2 desks on either side of the truck, when it is up it makes a standing desk + the 2 side desks are uncovered. And there’s space underneath for storage.

Managed to find a suitable mattress, 2 x chairs, 3 x pillows from The Warehouse.
(why 3 pillows?? because the girlfriend wanted two of her own, that’s why.)

Cost: + $216

Total: $5,216
